I believe it has some errors in itself conceptually, some gaps that needed to be filled, I am sure they are going to be [besides my thoughts] improved in this progress. From now on I am going to begin to document all data I have read about this subject as well. -Oh I believe it will be accepted of course.

We are doing this midterm project with Karl Channell who is also a roommate of me, we are going to build a simple ball game in processing which uses a camera with a motion tracking system on the Z-axis. Briefly, the game is going to be the bouncing of the ball back and forth. The tricky part is going to be angles if we are thinking to create one, and also it should be really precise in order not to miss the ball.

Beside this, on Thursday we went to the presentation of Zachary Lieberman who is an instructor at Parsons and could be called as a ?visual media artist? whatever. He showed some of his works which he has done with Golan Levin, they were really awesome. Most of them were based on motion and sound detection /recognition systems. I read Levin’s article tonight which was intuitive as well. Check it out if you have time.

Basically I have found those sources pretty inspiritional and thinking we can make something out of those for ICM.

Basically I really like the idea of interpreting what the artist has built and doing something towards over our interpretations, thus creating our own implementations, technically comments. I have learned that this has been started in music by Stockhausten, he was not only re-playing the notes, he was re-playing the structure of the piece and create a new piece unlike like traditional music.

Umberto Eco’s words at “Open Work” shows those;

“A number of recent pieces of instrumental music are linked by a common feature: the considerable autonomy left to the individual performer in the way he chooses to play the work. Thus, he is not merely free to interpret the composer’s instructions following his own discretion (which in fact happens in traditional music), but he must impose his judgement on the form of the piece. ”

More thoughts of Reas can be read here :
http://artport.whitney.org/commissions/softwarestructures/text.html

“A benefit of working with software structures instead of programming languages is that it places the work outside the current technological framework, which is continually becoming obsolete. Because a software structure is independent from a specific technology, it is possible to continually create manifestations of any software structure with current technology to avoid retrograde associations. “

My only drawback would be what exactly is a software structure if we think in terms of expression.
